WorldTime 8

WorldTime is an application that shows what time it is in different locations across the world. It stands out from the crowd by featuring a day-night sun map (terminator line) that does not use data services to create the map and the ability to pin cities on start screen (requires lock screen access). Choose from over 500 cities to show the time (with daylight savings) and sunrise/sunset times. TRIAL version does not expire but has ads and you can only add 3 cities to your list.

Features:

  • Day-night sun map (terminator line) calculated and rendered locally
  • Pin your favorite cities to the start screen on a wide or square tile and always see the time and sun/moon image. (requires lock screen access)
  • Updated Daylight savings start and end dates.
  • Analog clock option

I bought this app without trialing it first (stupid) based on the cool screenshots. After I got it installed I realized that it doesn't tell the proper time based on your location. It's an hour off, and there's no setting for daylight savings. Seriously? A clock app that can't tell the right time? I am in Boston, MA and I added my city only to find that the time displayed is one hour early. It seems that the app can't accommodate daylight savings time! You'd think that a clock app should at least tell the right time...

I'd love it if the time zones could be overlaid in horizontal bars so I didn't have to do the mental math between clocks/dates. Instead, I could see my home time in a 12 hour bar and then see staggered bars below that which show the relative time in those other places. I use this to schedule global conference calls and a quick look at multiple time zones relative to one another vs. an assembly of data points would be really appreciated in the next update! thanks!

I really liked this app, design and functionality but with no DST and issues with life tiles who don't show the correct time, I'm disappointed and changed my rating.. lets do some updates and get this back on track.. thanks

Does not take DST into consideration and there is no setting available.

I have searched the settings and cannot figure out how to set any of the clocks to Daylight Savings Time. Also, it only shows preset locations but does not display the whole pick-list. Instead, it waits for you to type a few letters. That means you have to guess which cities might be included before you can see what the choices are in that part of the alphabet. I like the world time map however, so will still use this app until I find a better one.

Wanted to send the developer a couple of suggestions, but his contact-me box opens an email with no address to send to. The annoying quirk: the city clocks are strung along the screen bottom in the order entered, and there is no way to move them to put the cities in alphabetical order. If the contact mechanism worked, I would have also suggested adding The Hague to the cities list.

I like that I can pin tiles to my start menu with date and time. I would like to see seconds as well with digital clocks.

Live Tile function is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and functions BETTER than almost EVERY other Win8 clock app in the marketplace right now. Live tile updates EVERY MINUTE and app will sync the PC to the world atomic clock. Only improvements I would like to see: 1) When adding a new city, the search field should be selected/active by default so I can start typing with no additional taps/clicks. 2) Database of cities needs to be expanded.

While WorldTime 8 does a good job of displaying a great looking global map with a real time movement of the sun across the earth, one can only add cities contained in what some might consider to be a rather limited application database. Many of the locations I wanted to add were not in the database. If the developer would add the ability to add locations via map coordinates accompanied by free form location titles and time zones (GMT +/-), this would be a winner for me.

Fix it.
