My children who are learning music theory use this on their Surface devices. Very intuitive and they are pleased with the results and how quickly they can write music. Highly recommended (at least for those who are learning to compose). I have no opinion on how well this might work for those who are more advanced in their abilities. But this works well for our family.

It is so natural, once you get used to a couple quirks in handwriting recognition. Not as fully featured as Finale/Sibelius/Dorico, but not as full priced either! It has certainly sparked my creativity; I love being able to sit down with my Surface and sketch ideas by hand. Update: amazing customer support, too. From tech troubleshooting to helping me learn the software, I've been blown away.

The concept is incredible, however there are innumerable things that need work. If you are wanting this for choral arrangements/composition, keep looking. The add-on is not worth the money and it will not allow you to break the bar lines, so the lyrics constantly intersect them; nor can you adjust a dynamic's placement (as how a forte or cresc. would be placed ABOVE the staff to avoid jumbling info along with the lyrics). The quality of the instruments is better than systems like Noteflight, but the options and freedom you get like you would with them has been stripped away. I wouldn't recommend buying a device to use this because it will add a lot of frustration learning a new program AND device. Lastly, Staffpad's customers service has been rather terrible. I have only received very slow responses, if at all. I tried to ask where I could give feedback and suggestions months ago and still haven't received word of a reply. Hope this helps.

I encountered a pretty significant glitch where the program won't let me write an f sharp and have had no help from the supposed help email service. There is no number to call. very disappointing after spending 60 dollars on an app

It definitely works, but the handwriting recognition is sometimes wonky. It sometimes takes a little longer to write music than with other apps, but it is still pretty cool. There are also some missing features (like changing clef mid-measure), and hopefully those will be added in future updates (if the developer had a more active blog, that would help to know for sure).

There are bugs, especially the pen eraser and the programs' ability to read what I write. Johnny Zell, The Lawrence Welk TV Show.

good

It's a new thing to learn for sure but it won't take long, especially with the in-app tutorials. My biggest problem is not being able to split the score into separate parts. Without that function, what's the point of writing an entire score?

very buggy, and lack of basic features. but still write faster than finale. so... yeah I'll use it

the handwriting recognition takes some getting used to. But once you grow accustomed to it, I prefer it over Sibelius.
