Next Metro

Next Metro displays live information from a few nearby Tube, DLR, London Overground, and TfL Rail stations based on your current location, ideally, in London (UK). It also provides the status of the whole metro network and directions to a nearby station of your choice, and includes an offline metro map. The app is simple, quick, requires minimal interaction, allows the font size to be changed on some of the screens, supports voice commands, and offers an optional voice-over. The app requires the following permissions due to the corresponding reasons: • Location - to identify nearby stations. • Maps - to display your location and a route to the selected station. • Microphone - to accept speech commands. • Device network services - to fetch information from TfL. • Speech recognition and text-to-speech services - to interpret speech commands and to convert text to speech when the voice-over option is enabled. What's new in 3.4.0.2? • Resolved an issue which prevented the London Overground live tile from displaying its correct color. HISTORY 3.4.0.1 (May 16, 2017) • Added more options for the departure info refresh rate to give the user a bigger surface for selecting the trade-off between timeliness of information and battery usage while the app is in the foreground (active use) 3.4.0.0 (May 3, 2017) • Improved the appearance of combo boxes on devices using the light theme • Removed unnecessary app permissions • Added departures for the following lines: o DLR o London Overground o TfL Rail 3.3.0.0 • Updated the tube map. • Added the night tube map. • Added the correct colour for Trams. • Ensured that the app displays correctly when the device’s theme is set to ‘Light’. 3.2.1.1 - Minor update to remove northbound trains from Amersham tube station. 3.2.1.0 - Updated the app with colours from the new TfL Rail service (please note that departure information for this new service is unavailable as TfL does not currently provide it to third-party developers). - Updated the tube map. - Added a setting for the rate at which departure information is refreshed (the default setting is 30 seconds as recommended by TfL, but two more options are now available). 3.2.0.0 - It’s now possible to add the app to the lock screen for detailed and/or quick status updates through the settings screen. 3.1.0.0 - Added an offline metro map which can be accessed from the application bar. - Removed references to the UK App Challenge following the end of the competition. 3.0.6.0 - Resolved an issue related to missing speech recognizers. 3.0.4.0 - Updated the primary live tile to include a badge indicating the number of lines which have issues – the badge is only visible if there is at least one line which has a problem. 3.0.2.0 - Altered the primary live tile so that specific lines that have issues are explicitly mentioned. 3.0.1.0 - Added an option to disable periodic tube status updates when the app is not running. 3.0.0.0 - Added optional pins to the status page to allow your favourite lines to be pinned to your phone’s start screen. - Enabled all medium and wide tiles to flip to reveal status information. - Added a checkbox to the settings page for hiding/showing the pins on the status page. - Renamed help to about. - Added the UK AppChallenge button on the about page. 2.6.0.0 - Stability improvements. - Improved location data acquisition. - The default microphone position is now on the application bar to facilitate easier one-handed use if in-app voice commands are enabled; however, it can be moved back to the top right-hand corner from the settings. - Placed a note on the product page to explain that TfL does not provide official departures information for the DLR and London Overground to third parties. 2.5.0.0 - Added an optional voice-over. - Added support for voice commands.
