The premise has merit. One thing it lacks is better navigational control; by that I mean that the user should have some manual control beyond the broad time scale at the bottom. I agree with the comment regarding events. In fact some I've looked at have had little to no substantial value to warrant their being shown. It has value in one aspect. Pick a year, hopefully one with many events, open one that you have little or next to no knowledge of. If after you've read the thumbnail text and it Peaks your interest, use your search engine — it's called self education; spend part of a rainy day to get smarter. Perhaps the developer could even add a few on-line reference links.
