Comments for Gobble

Just to give my review some context, here is a list of the podcast apps i've tried and uninstalled after months of use: Podcast (native win mobile app), Cast (UWP app for PC, mobile and xbox), Grover podcast (mobile and PC). All of these had their individual faults, and each disappointed in their own way. Gobble, on the other hand, has an intelligent and diligent developer behind it, taking user feedback and applying it to the app in a way that makes it work! What a concept. The result is a podcast app that synchronizes subscriptions between mobile and PC, seemlessly without the use of a third-party synchronization platform. Looks great. Is simple to use, but doesn't sacrifice functionality for simplicity. Small app file size means that you don't have to sacrifice 100+ MB to run a podcast app on your phone (here's lookin at you, Cast), and it works so well on xbox as well, with more bug fixes and UI additions coming. All in all, the perfect UWP app. Thank you CJ!

So far, I am able to find some of the podcasts I want to add, but the player is refusing to play. Unsupported file type. I will be happy to revisit the review if N starts working.

I add some podcasts from catalog part, but it couldn't load and show any item which I added in My subscription Part. Need Update. Useless

I have had problems off and on with Gobble. There were times that the app wouldn't sync with podcasts and the app crashing. The latest major update of the app left me with a user interface that was MORE difficult to use. Then yesterday it wouldn't start. I went to the app store and tried another app, Grover. I have been delighted. It was extremely easy to set up and use. Goodbye Gobble.

If I could rate this as a zero I would. The app installed OK but never downloaded podcasts properly on my Surface 2. I emailed the developer with my comments multiple times. It appeared he wasn't that interested in correcting the issue so I asked for my money back to which he hasn't responded or followed up. I've uninstalled the app and have concluded that it was a waste of time and money.

Update 10/15/14 I start the app and find that I got feeds that I never subscribed to. Slow to startup, takes about 10-15 seconds to start. But that's on a Nokia Lumia 520, which only has 512 Mb of ram. So that's the phone, not the app. I have this app on my windows rt, and this doesn't know which podcast were watched on the other device. Cannot hide viewed episodes. Cannot unsubscribe. The controls aren't good. Now way to move for a little at a time like 30 secs. Update 10/30/15 Installed on Lumia 640. Cannot export feeds form desktop app, so I can import the in here. The developer told me last year the they where going to make an export feature. A year later, I'm still waiting.

Can't stop multi speed

Tried to add a feed, didn't succeed, the app closes by itself and returns to main screen.

Also, the developer is very responsive. Like this better than iTunes. Only minor glitches in subscriptions.

App crashes frequently. Interface is confusing and feels very unpolished on the desktop. Syncing between the desktop and phone appears to work though. While it's not perfect or even particularly great as far as I know it's the only podcast app that syncs between desktop and PC. Just expect to have to fight it a bit before you get things working.

The tablet version of this app works great & it's beautiful. Wish I could could say the same for the phone app. Adding an ompl from OneDrive or the phone doesn't work or is iffy. Doesn't add all podcast from ompl. No export of ompl files. It's slow to load. But the UI is beautiful. Unfortunately it locks up. Auto download it's a: Hard to find & b: Doesn't work. I really want to like this app. It's beautiful & it's got a windows counterpart but it chugs on my quad core, 2 gb of ram icon. & it doesn't work AT ALL on my Lumia 920.

Continuous downloading issues.

A bit slow and clunky... Never seems to download anything and has no setting for me to have it automatically download in the background. Great work on the universal app.... I'll check back in a future version though

When I heard that Universal Gobble was coming, I figured the phone version would have reduced functions and be missing features. I have found it to be very feature rich, and a solid performer. The interface is quite intuitive and a grew compliment for the Windows version.

The title says it all. This is one of the best apps that I have found for the Surface RT. It does everything that I wish for it to do, and I am sure that it will only get better as time goes on. Thanks very much for this Windows 8/RT gem. Version 1.3 only makes a great app even better. Great job guys... Update: 18Dec12, it just keep getting better and better. Thanks guys... Update: 3May13, This is still the best Podcast app that I have used, regardless of platform. Don't stop... It just continues to get, better and better. Thank you very much...

I'm a podcast enthusiast, and I've tried most of the podcatchers available on the Windows App Store. Gobble is by far the most polished, feature-rich one I've found. I'm using this both on my desktop PC (x64) and Surface 2 (ARM), and I'm thrilled with the performance of the app in both places. Subscribing to a podcast in one place automatically adds it to the other -- a great feature. There were two bugs I found with the previous version of the app. I contacted the developer about these, and both bugs are fixed in this build. Now that's service! If you've been disappointed with the quality of podcatchers on the Windows App Store, I highly recommend trying out Gobble. It's what a Windows 8 application should be.

The layout is nice. The scrolling ends up being horrid though. To choppy. Need to be able to subscribe and automatically download new episodes as well as add your own feeds. Update: still unable to automatically download...ugh

12 January 2014

Doesn't sync across devices. Navigation is pretty horrible. It took five minutes to figure out how to play a feed I just added.

I purchased this app because offered the possibility to import your own list of podcasts. Worked for a little while and then kept crashing every time I launched it. Too bad, it had a great UI and set of features.

Functions really well, and the overall flow and design is good. I would like the ability to start by displaying your favorites, and an auto-update feature would be nice. Search doesn't seem to work that well, but I already knew which podcasts I listen to and where to find their feeds.

avatar

6 December 2013

This app only showed the app homescreen. I could not search for podcasts.

26 October 2013

As far as I can tell the only podcasts you can get are whatever Gobble puts in the library. They don't have some of the most popular podcasts (This American Life? RadioLab? WTF with Marc Maron?) and even if they took strides to expand their library it's unlikely they'll hit every obscure podcast you enjoy (for instance podcasts in other languages).

Sleek metro style interface. Up to date podcast database enabling me to sync my favorites (404, Cnet on Cars, Stuff...) in no time. Only thing keeping it from five star rating is occasional slowdowns during in app navigation. Either way, if podcasts are the only thing keeping you from letting go of Zune then it's time to let go ;). Go to PodSource.TV option in order to search for your favorite podcast by name...had to mention this considering some reviews claiming that there're no podcasts ;)

There's no podcasts!

Sliding the tiles l/r is a little non-intuitive, but once u got the hang of it, it is functional. Looks pretty cool, though. The included feeds work and look great. However, I've been looking for a good podcast client for a whole, and this is one of the better one for Win8. Needs work to finish the download feature, and some podcasts won't play unless u add to a playlist. Wish download worked and user could control the download location. Could we get accessible play/pause w/o a slide menu?

18 June 2013

beats iTunes by far

22 May 2013

I tried just about every podcast player available on the app store and found most of them cluttered or lacking. Gobble is above the rest in its clean responsive interface. Their custom support was also extremely responsive and got back to me very quickly when I was having trouble adding some podcasts via their url (my fault). Some minor things I would add is time remaining and total time as well as a way to keep the controls visible when playing. Had a few crashes when setting up, none since.

Haven't used it a ton but seems solid & easy-to-use for basic podcatching. Sadly, there's no way to contact the devs for little bugs - eg, the Play/Pause button in the music popup doesn't work for pause - it will re-play from the last paused location. Gobble also marks started podcasts as listened (rather than waiting until I finish it). It would also be nice to sync podcast progress with a Windows Phone version.
