Code Writer

Code Writer is a free text and code editor app with active syntax highlighting that updates as you edit documents and has over 20 supported file types. A tabbed document interface allows for quickly switching between open documents. The app has been built from the ground up with Windows 8 design principles in mind. It's fast and fluid, and gives you the power to edit documents with features you'd normally only find in desktop apps. Code Writer is perfect for editing any text-based file, doing code reviews, or giving presentations with code samples. The core text editor screen allows you to edit documents in full-screen mode without chrome distractions. Only the scrollbars and line/column display are visible by default. Find/replace and advanced features like tabify lines and convert case are available. Easily create new or open existing documents from any accessible source. Color is used pervasively throughout the app to create a bond between you and the various file types you work with. Configure the editor theme and other options such as font size to mold your ideal editing environment. Learn about every product feature with the included detailed documentation. The app functions in snapped view, allowing you to work side-by-side with other apps, and is fully supported on ARM, x86, and x64 devices. Finally a lightweight editor with windows 10 look and feel and syntax coloring. Please add tabs and multiple windows, that's what it's really missing. Also a format function (xml, json) would be of great help. Plugins? Maybe that's too much, I like it being lightweight.

This app re-registered ALL coding file types to itself, overriding my existing registrations without asking. File types that normally open with Visual Studio no longer do. Changing the file-type settings in Code Writer does not undo the registrations; it just hides these types from being listed within the app. If you are a developer and have other IDE's and tools, install this at your own peril.

I like the app and it works great except for when it has to load a large portion of text (such as an image saved in base 64) on one line. Then the app just crashes.

I like the design, background and color and easy to write and read. It will be better if it can be added to the right click open with and set as a default.

But the UI is terrible and seems like you have not updated it since Windows 8. Please make the UI more PC friendly. This is for now.

This is the whole thing with windowss 10. One UI to run on everything. But most of the apps, including the ones for education do not run on the phone. Please make this one universal. Would be nice to edit some code on the phone, table and then desktop, etc.
