I've owned your apps for many years since WP7. I was able to install add free version of chess by post, but words by post wants me to spend another $2.99, for an app I already own on mobile. Is this intentional?

This is simply an ideal way to play as much chess as you want against players at your own level ((based on your win/loss stats). You can also play against individuals you know as long as they also have the app. Those games don't apply to your ranking.
